21st Century People Skills

Leadership & Followership

Can you imagine a choreographer only training one dancer to lead while their partner sits in the lobby staring at the wall? Yet we do this all the time in organizations. Half the partnership is missing!

All of us lead, not just those with the formal title. All of us follow, not just front-line staff. This empowering perspective opens us leadership to everyone, normalizes followership, and enables more productive and innovative collaborations.

Meet your teachers: Dr. Marc & Samantha Hurwitz

Marc has a PhD in cognitive neuroscience, masters degrees in math, physics, and business. Because of that you might think he’s super right-brained but he writes poetry, acts/directs musicals, is a pinball wizard and a big time ideator (his FourSight® profile).

Samantha is a recovered corporate executive, filled with gratitude now to be tapping into her creativity as Chief Encouragement Officer of FliP U, co-founder of the Global Followership Conference, co-author of Leadership Is Half The Story and a teacher teaching stuff she loves.

Together they are “pracademic” and continue to exceed their full potential!

“Undergraduate students have embraced FlipU's "generative partnership" language with joy, relief, and growing confidence. They find the framework refreshing and empowering to gain traction in their leadership and followership roles on campus and in their communities. A definite win!”

–LORI THROUPE, Professor of Leadership Studies & Faculty Director of Academic Success, Christopher Newport University

“FlipU has provided the vocabulary and framework that adds value to the gravely undervalued "follower". Students and colleagues alike have adopted this framework in their respective roles and the feedback consistently reflects more respect, more production, and more joy!”

–LACEY GREY H. HUNTER, Director, President's Leadership Program, Christopher Newport University
